The renowned company of Berner Jura can look back on three quarters of a century of unique history

The Swiss mechatronic drive systems company, Sonceboz SA, will celebrate its 75th anniversary in September, 2011. The company has successfully grown through time, constantly evolving with advances in electromagnetism, and contributing, at its own level, state-of-the-art, innovative motion systems to the market. Both the history and life at the company today reflect what is unique about Sonceboz. The company stands now as a dependable partner for reliable, innovative, and compact electric motion systems. More than 40 million motors move yearly worldwide; in automotive, medtech and industrial applications.

From mind to motion

The history of Sonceboz AG is being updated every day – and it has been an exciting story for more than 75 years. Since the very beginning, in 1936 when Sonceboz was founded, the company has devoted itself to microtechnics, and to the issues of motion in particular. Our expertise is motion under difficult conditions: high stress (including temperature and vibration), confined spaces, and precision technology, to name a few. The integration of electronics and mechanics, and the ensuing development of mechatronic drive systems is one of Sonceboz’ core competencies, in keeping with our motto “From Mind to Motion”.

When it all started

In 1936, the company was founded by the Pfister family as a spin-off of Société Industrielle d’Ebauches SA. The newly born entity was dedicated to the production of industrial clockwork mechanisms, and progressively shifted to the development of electric motors and mechatronic drive systems. The small community of Sonceboz-Sombeval, in the Swiss canton of Bern, was chosen because the river there was a natural source of power. The Pfister family still owns and manages the company today, shaping a highly skilled and motivated team by inspiring vision, entrepreneurship and enthusiasm.
